Style and Design
The 2023 Volvo XC90 is manufactured in seven different body colors, divided into base, bright and dark categories. Approaching the front of the XC90 reveals the hood and character lines of the hood that gently slopes downward. Frontal views include the easily recognizable polished chrome slotted grille bearing the Volvo icon. Equally familiar are the angled headlights featuring the illuminated Thor's hammer daylight running lights. Polished chrome surrounds the windows and accents the lower body on all sides. The angled vehicle rear boasts a rooftop spoiler and uniquely angled brake and taillights.
Interior
The XC90's interior exudes elegance and sophistication while having a simplistic Scandinavian design. The three-row, seven-passenger cabins are trimmed in aluminum, leather, and soft-touch vinyl. The superior construction of the XC90 alleviates most wind and road noise during excursions. Dashboards have clean lines and appear unencumbered. A centrally located infotainment system has air vents flanking either side. The center console boasts a crystal shift lever and a hidden storage compartment. Behind the third-row seats is 15.8 cubic feet of storage room that extends to 41.8 cubic feet and 85.7 cubic feet when folding the third- and second-row seats.
Features
All trim levels also have four-zone climate control for more precise temperature control. If you choose to get the base trim with all-wheel drive, you will also get heated seats as a standard feature. A hands-free liftgate, a standard item across the board, makes loading and unloading your gear, groceries, and other belongings easier. A heated steering wheel and heated rear seats are added to the higher-end trim levels and available for the lower-level trims with the available Climate Package. Leather seats and ambient interior lights come with the R-Design and up. Navigation is standard, along with wireless phone charging and a nine-inch touchscreen display.
Performance and Handling
Sharp and smooth handling is a highlight of the new Volvo XC90. The Volvo features three different engines to give you as many options as possible for performance in your vehicle. Even a hybrid version provides the car with a substantial amount of power and 18 miles in the all-electric range. The Volvo's base engine is called the T5. This engine is a turbo engine with four cylinders and a 2.0L capacity. The Volvo's base engine produces 250 HP in maximum power, and its torque output with the standard engine is just short of 260 LB-FT. If you want more power from the Volvo XC90, you can upgrade to the second engine in the chain called the T6. The T6 engine is supercharged and turbocharged. This engine ups the Volvo's power output to 316 HP, and its peak torque production is close to 300 LB-FT. If you want more power than that, along with an even better fuel economy, you can choose to get the hybrid powertrain called the Recharge. The Recharge combines the second engine with a battery pack to maximize power and efficiency. The engine and battery provide the Recharge with a maximum power rating of 400 HP. You'll get over 470 LB-FT in torque with the hybrid system. The Recharge gives the Volvo almost 20 miles of electric range before it switches to gasoline. All engines are connected to an automatic eight-speed transmission. The XC90 has front-wheel drive as its standard drivetrain, but all-wheel drive is optional on most trim levels.
